2023 Executive Summary: ABOYERD Impact Highlights

In 2023, ABOYERD advanced its mission across key biodiversity landscapes, including Mbam Djerem and Campo Ma’an National Parks, by integrating science-driven conservation, environmental education, sustainable livelihoods, and climate action.

Flagship Program Achievements

  • The Ngouroumoutou Program: Sensitized over 2,250 community members across Mbam Djerem on pangolin meat consumption, trained 210+ forest users in apiculture and njansang value chains, engaged 150 students in pangolin clubs, and published peer-reviewed research on pangolin habitat use.

  • CAMGAEPP (Campo Ma’an Great Apes & Elephant Protection Program): Mitigated human-wildlife conflict by planting 16,000+ native trees and installing 430+ beehives across six communities, using chili pepper farming and apiculture to deter elephant crop raids while raising local incomes.

  • Field Conservation Heroes Program (FCHP): Mentored five university students (including four women and one international intern) in conservation law, field research, and community engagement, successfully transitioning two graduates into professional project roles.

Financials & Governance

  • Total Revenue: XAF 93.4 million.

  • Program Investment: 85.7% of total funds were directly allocated to field and program activities.

  • Operational Adaptability: Overcame logistical, funding, and language barriers through multilingual outreach, flexible resource allocation, and community-led planning.

Key 2024 Outlook Plans include establishing a permanent environmental education center in Ngoum, launching fish farming pilots, and releasing new research publications on NTFPs and bushmeat dynamics.

2024 Executive Summary: ABOYERD Impact Highlights

In 2024, ABOYERD expanded its community-based conservation initiatives across the Mbam Djerem and Campo Ma’an landscapes, delivering measurable progress in wildlife protection, habitat restoration, and local economic development.

Key Program Achievements

  • The Ngouroumoutou Program: Reached 3,000+ individuals through a behavior-change campaign that reduced pangolin meat consumption. Established a new Environmental Education Center in Ngoum and engaged 168 students across active Pangolin Clubs.

  • CAMGAEPP (Campo Ma’an Great Apes & Elephant Protection Program): Mitigated Human-Elephant Conflict by planting 15,000+ native trees, constructing 430+ beehives, and training 60 community members in sustainable deterrents and ecological resilience.

  • Capacity Building & Law Enforcement: Trained 13 eco-guards in wildlife crime scene management aligned with national legislation. Prepared to host two international interns from France for 2025 under the Field Conservation Heroes Program.

  • Livelihoods & Research: Supported 210+ forest users across apiculture, njangsang, and honey value chains, while launching pilot projects in fish, poultry, and potato farming to lower forest dependency. Scientific efforts included bio-monitoring and participatory land mapping.

Operational Focus & 2025 Outlook Despite funding and logistical challenges, ABOYERD maintained progress through participatory governance and financial transparency. Priorities for 2025 include expanding environmental education, introducing plantain farming and eco-gardens, and formalizing local land rights.
